Property owners can redeem (pay) taxes that have been sold by making their payment in person or through the mail. Make payments to:

Moultrie County Clerk
10 S. Main Street, Suite 6
Sullivan, IL 61951

Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday

A financial institution may make the payment on your behalf. Make sure the company includes:

• The financial institution's contact person, phone number and address they would like the receipt mailed to.
• The property owner's name
• The parcel ID number (which will look something like 01-01-20-300-201)

To make a redemption payment:

• Payments must be made in full for the exact amount. Partial payments are not accepted and will not redeem delinquent taxes.
• The Clerk's office can only accept a certified or cashier's check or money order.
• The parcel ID number (which will look something like 01-01-20-300-201) must be noted on your payment.
• Be sure you make your payment to the Moultrie County Clerk, NOT the Treasurer or Collector's office.
• For making payments:

• In person: Payments must be received in the County Clerk's office by 4:30 p.m. on or before the Expiration Date (the last day to redeem).
• Delivery: Payments must be received in the County Clerk's office no later than 4:30 p.m. on the Expiration Date (the last day to redeem) if you are using a delivery service such as FedEx or UPS.
• U.S. Mail: Payments must be post-marked the day before the Expiration Date (the last day to redeem).
• If your payment is made by mail or delivery service, you must include the address to which you would like the Redemption Receipt to be mailed.

Proof of Payment:

After making your redemption payment, you will receive a Redemption Receipt immediately if paid in person. If payment was mailed, you or the financial institution making payment on your behalf (whichever party sent the payment) will receive the Redemption Receipt in the mail within a few days.

In addition, the County Clerk's office will send a copy of the Redemption Receipt to your tax buyer notifying them of your payment. Upon receipt of the Certificate of Purchase from the tax buyer, the County Clerk will issue payment to the tax buyer for the taxes they purchased, accrued interest and reimbursable fees which they are entitled to by law and which you paid.

If you have any questions, please contact the County Clerk's office at 217-728-4389.
