Zoning Board of Appeals
The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) is a five member citizen board organized under the zoning ordinance to hear several types of zoning issues. These include:
1. request for changes in zoning classification (map amendments);
2. permission for certain uses under zoning named as special uses in the zoning ordinance;
3. request for relief from specific requirements of the ordinance through variance requests; and
4. appeal of a determination made by the Director of Building and Zoning.
A citizen may apply for a public hearing, pay a filing fee, and present his/her case to the ZBA. The ZBA makes a recommendation to the full County Board for their final consideration.
Meetings are generally scheduled for the first Friday of the month. Notice of the meeting must be published in the local paper at least 15 days prior to the hearing. Most hearings are held at the site in question.
