About:
The State's Attorney's Office prosecutes all state criminal cases (felony and misdemeanor) and traffic cases for Moultrie County. The office is also the legal counsel for the county for county business. We do not represent individual citizens. We cannot get involved in civil legal disputes and we cannot provide legal advice for civil law issues. For example, we cannot give advice about divorce cases, child custody issues, land disputes, or landlord tenant issues.

Victim Restitution Worksheet: If you are a victim of a crime, and charges have been filed against the defendant, please complete the attached worksheet and send it to us along with receipts or other documentation supporting your loss. Please also send a cover letter with your contact information.

Plea Offer Request Form: If you are a criminal defendant and wish for us to mail you a plea offer, please complete this form. If you are represented by a private lawyer or wish to seek the appointment of a public defender, please do not send this form to us. We will only speak to your lawyer and not directly to you.

• Automated Victim Notification System
          The Illinois Automated Victim Notification System is a free service offered to crime victims of an offender's custody status change, court event information, and sex offender information. The victim will be notified by either a call, text message, or email in the event the offender has been released, has been transferred, escapes, or dies. Victims can sign up for this service by either calling the toll free number 1-866-5-Notify (1-866-566-8439), TTY 1-877-502-2423, or visiting the websitewww.vinelink.com.

• Children's Advocacy Centers of East Central Illinois
          The Children's Advocacy Centers of East Central Illinois (CACECI) serves Clark, Coles, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Moultrie, and Shelby counties. The CACECI is located at 616 Sixth Street, Charleston, Illinois, 61920. Any child under the age of 18 who has been sexually and/or physically abused in Moultrie County is eligible to receive free and confidential services at CACECI. In a child friendly interview room, a forensic interview will be conducted by specially trained staff using child friendly words and phrases. The family of the child will be offered a variety of services to help them during their time of crisis. If you suspect that a child is being physically abused, neglected, or sexually abused please call Illinois Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-25-ABUSE or 1-800-252-2873.

Bad Checks
Effective May 1, 2019, the Moultrie County State's Attorney’s Bad Check Program will no longer be accepting checks. 

If you have received an insufficient funds check or an account closed check you may pursue your civil remedies in court.  If you believe you have been the victim of a crime, you should report the incident to your local law enforcement agency.
